Giving shape to the idea of "Mottainai"
[Mottainai] Hitoe® Fold - Liscio
Limited quantities of the old model (2021 model) are available
Starting May 31, 2023, Hitoe® Fold is hosting a pre-order (crowdfunding) for a new model.
In conjunction with this, the old model will be sold in limited quantities while supplies last.
Compared to the new model, the only difference is the slightly larger size, with the same upgraded finish as the new model in the staining of the koba and some rough surfaces on the inside of the card pocket.
Please refer to the product description of the old model below.
Small thin wallet
I want to go out without any bag."
The Hitoe® Fold, a small thin wallet, was created to fulfill this desire.
The Hitoe® structure (design registered), which prevents stacking of stored items , and the hardware-free inner hook (patent applied for), which provides an extremely thin design and smooth operability.
This is a thin wallet that has been created with ingenuity in pursuit of an ideal suitable for the cashless era.
The color of the edge of the leather is dyed and may differ from the photo.
Challenge to thinness
HITOE® (single) structure that stands out for its thinness
The Hitoe® (single) structure (design registered ), which does not stack cards and coins, achieves thinness.
Thickest part when stowed is 13mm.
(When storing 7 cards, 10 bills, and 10 100 yen coins)
・Palm size 92 x 92mm
・Weight approx. 39g
Up to 7 cards, 10 bills, and 20 coins can be stored.
Even with ample storage space, it is overwhelmingly thin.
Layout that cards and coins do not overlap
Thin detail
The edges are stitched together on the outside, with the leather overlapping. This is done in order to focus on thinness. If the leather is folded over and wrapped inside, the size can be reduced, but the leather overlaps and becomes thicker.
This detail is true to the ideal of a thin wallet.
While pursuing a thin wallet, the leather is thick enough, and the leather-like texture such as tension and firmness is also important.
Hardware-free inner hook
A new concept of using the cards to be stored as a clasp.
We have devised an inner hook (patent pending) that hangs from the card instead of the outside of the wallet.
This smart leather hook keeps the wallet thin and does not show on the front.
This idea made possible the minimalist design of the small, thin Hitoe® Fold wallet with no hardware.
Inner hook that hangs on the card integrated with the bill holder
It not only serves as a clasp but also prevents cards from falling out.
It is tucked inside to prevent cards from accidentally falling out
Clipped with leather. That's all there is to it.
Flat appearance with just a leather clasp. No metal fittings, flaps, or other unnecessary items stick out, so it remains thin and won't get caught in your pocket.
The design prevents the inner hook from coming off when the front and back are reversed. Therefore, there is no need to worry about dropping coins by mistakenly opening the top and bottom sides.
Composed only of leather without any hardware
Minimal and smooth operability
Quick checkout with minimal movements
For right-handed users, the wallet can be easily opened and closed by bending the bottom of the wallet in a " U" shape with the left hand. With this single action, the wallet remains in portrait orientation, and the right hand can smoothly insert and remove money, cards, and everything else.
The trick is to just bend the wallet in a "wiggle" shape and not to touch the inner hook.
Bills remain in place without being folded
Just insert banknotes without folding them. They are also highly visible and easy to remove. Since it does not get folded or trifold bent, it can be smoothly inserted into vending machines and self-checkout machines.
Cards can be smoothly inserted and removed without touching the bill holder
Cards are secure and smooth
When closed, the inner hook prevents cards from falling out. The card pocket has a large cutout that pairs with the inner hook for smooth insertion and removal.
Smooth card insertion and removal
Extra cards can be placed in the card holder. The card holder can be used to open and close the wallet without any problems.
Extra cards can be placed in the bill holder.
Smooth, non-overflowing coin pocket
The coin pocket is shallow and has no zippers, hooks or other metal fittings, so you can quickly remove the coins you need.
When storing coins, the coin pocket lid serves as a guide for smooth storage.
When the wallet is closed, coins will not overflow. Even when the wallet is open, the lid of the coin pocket prevents overflow.
There is plenty of room for 999 yen (15 coins).
Once the leather gets used to it, it is spill-proof during use.

Design in accordance with the laws of nature
Why is the Golden Ratio so beautiful?
The Golden Ratio 1:1.62 is the aspect ratio of a rectangle made up of a spiral of squares with the Fibonacci sequence as one side. (Figure below)
In fact, the Fibonacci sequence is hidden everywhere in nature. Tree branches, the number of petals, sunflower seeds, seashells, typhoons, spiral galaxies. It can also be found in art, such as the Pyramids, the Parthenon, and the 36 Views of Mount Fuji, where beauty is at its finest.
It is not the golden ratio that is important. It is the Fibonacci sequence, in which the proportions from the smallest detail to the whole are deeply related to nature and the providence of life, that results in a well-balanced design that resonates with the heart.
Proportions based on the spiral of the Fibonacci sequence
Beautiful details
The precise and delicate stitching, the polished leather edges that reveal the overlapping layers of leather, the smooth floor ( back side of the leather), and the fine lines placed around the edges with a hot iron.
Every detail of the Hitoe® Fold, a small, thin wallet, is beautiful.
Beautiful edge treatment
For simplicity, the engraving is hidden under the card
Long and beautiful use
In general, most wallet problems are caused by hardware or sewing. However, the small, thin Hitoe® Fold wallet uses no hardware at all and only four stitches.
In addition, the corners, which are prone to damage, are made of layers of outer and inner leather to increase durability. The seam allowance is as small as possible, so the design does not easily lose its shape even in a trouser pocket.
Corners are layered with leather for durability
Smooth textured vacchetta leather
This wallet uses " vacchetta leather, " which has been used in the Tuscany region of Italy since the early 9th century. The leather is tanned with vegetable tannin and soaked with oil slowly, so that you can enjoy its almost permanent moisture and glossy texture. The silver surface is smooth and fine, with a natural uneven color due to the dye finish, giving the leather an elegant and tasteful look.
The aging process of vacchetta leather stands out among other Italian leathers, and the color and luster deepen beautifully.
(For a detailed description of the leather, click on the "Material" tab.)
Smooth hills of Tuscany, Italy
Origins
Liscio is an Italian word meaning "smooth. The surface is smooth and fine, with natural unevenness in color, giving the leather an elegant and tasteful look.
Tanning and Manufacturing
Vacchetta leather has been used in the Tuscany region of Italy since the early 9th century. The cowhide is tanned with vegetable tannin extracted from chesnut and mimosa, and then soaked in oil slowly and finished with dyes. The more the leather is used, the more the oil soaks into the leather, deepening its color and luster.
Maintenance
Since it contains sufficient oil inside, oil care is not necessary unless you are concerned about scratches or dryness. We recommend dry brushing with a soft cloth on a daily basis.

Q. Are there any tips for opening and closing it?
If you are right-handed, you can use your left hand to bend the boundary between the coin pocket and the card pocket into an "U" shape, which will release the inner hook and allow the wallet to open smoothly.
To close it, lightly press the top with your right hand while bending it into an "U" shape with your left hand, and the inner hook will naturally catch on the card.
The trick is to not touch the inner hook when opening or closing it.
Q. It becomes distorted when closed.
This is caused by misusing the inner hook on the outside of the wallet. Please only hang it on the cards you want to store.
Q. Should I choose right-handed or left-handed?
If you use your right hand to insert and remove cards and coins, please select "right-handed"; if you use your left hand, please select "left-handed". All photos and videos used in the product description are for right-handed use, and the slot for removing bills and cards is on the right side.
Q. The card pockets are too cramped
The design is tight so that the leather does not stretch more than necessary, so it may feel tight when you first start using it while the leather is still stiff. Don't worry, it will become more comfortable as you use it.
Also, if the card is difficult to insert all the way in, pressing the leather at the back of the card pocket (to the left of the card for right-handed users) firmly will help the card to fit in more easily.
Please note that storing cards with uneven surfaces or items other than credit card size (such as point cards or medical cards) can make the bag feel cramped.
Q: Will the cards fall out?
When you close the wallet by hanging the inner hook, it won't fall out.
Even when open, the leather on the top edge of the cards will support them if the wallet is held vertically. Please note that cards are more likely to fall out if the wallet is placed horizontally.
The slip-less design (patent pending) of the product makes it even more difficult to fall off. For more information, please click here .
Q. Will the coins spill?
The coin pocket has a lid to prevent spills. As the leather becomes more flexible with use and the bend in the lid settles, it will become even less likely to spill.
The pocket is shallow to allow for quick removal of coins, and the size of the pocket allows the top of a 500 yen coin to be slightly visible, but it is hidden when the lid is closed.
If you open the wallet horizontally, coins may spill out. Please use it vertically.
Q. I'm bothered by the sound of coins.
If you store your coins with the coin pocket facing upright, you can prevent the coins from making noise. Also, the coins will automatically align themselves more easily, so please try it.
Q. Won't I open it upside down and spill the coins?
Don't worry, if you turn the wallet inside out, it won't bend into a "U" shape and won't open. You can also use this as a reference for the position of the stitching and how the cards look.
<Example: Right-handed>
- The side without the stitching on the right side is the front, as the bills are taken out from the right.
- The side where the cards are most visible is the right side, as the cards are taken out from the right.
Q. Can the magnetic stripes of cards be stacked?
Modern magnetic stripes are highly resistant to magnetism, so there is no problem even if they are stacked. Also, IC chips are not affected by magnetism.
However, for bank cards with no expiration date, the magnetic stripe may be weakened, so we recommend stacking the cards with the magnetic stripes alternating up and down.
